🔍 Why Apps Don’t Work Even When WiFi is Connected?
This issue happens when your system has internet access at the hardware level but fails at the software/network layer. Windows shows “Connected,” but data packets cannot properly reach servers.
- DNS not resolving domains — websites fail to load
- Proxy misconfiguration — blocks app connections
- Firewall restrictions — prevents apps from accessing internet
- Corrupted TCP/IP stack — breaks communication
- Driver issues — especially after updates
Restart Router and PC
Before trying advanced fixes, always restart your router and PC. Temporary routing errors can block internet access even when WiFi shows connected.
- Turn off router → wait 2 minutes
- Restart PC
- Reconnect WiFi
Change DNS Server (Most Effective Fix)
DNS failure is the #1 cause of this issue. Switching to a public DNS instantly resolves connectivity problems.
- Press
Win + R→ typencpa.cpl - Right-click WiFi → Properties
- Select IPv4 → Use following DNS
- Enter: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Disable Proxy Settings
Incorrect proxy settings silently block internet access for apps.
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy
- Turn OFF “Use a proxy server”
- Restart PC
Disable Firewall or Antivirus Temporarily
Security software may block apps from accessing the internet.
- Disable antivirus temporarily
- Turn off firewall (for testing)
- Check if apps start working
Reset Network Stack
This fix restores Windows networking components to default state.
Restart your PC after running commands.
Update or Reinstall Network Driver
Driver issues are common after Windows updates. Reinstalling ensures proper connectivity.
- Open Device Manager
- Uninstall network adapter
- Restart PC (driver auto reinstall)
Reset Microsoft Store and Apps
If only apps are affected, reset app cache:
WiFi connected but apps not working is almost always caused by DNS or proxy issues. Start with Fix 2 (DNS change) and Fix 3 (Disable proxy) — these solve the problem in most cases within minutes.
